Accepting Junior Coach applications for 2019
Hello parents of 13-18 year old Cherry Knolls swimmers!
We are very excited to continue with our Junior Coach program and are accepting applications now through March 31 at this link: 2019 Junior Coach Application
Junior Coaches provide an essential role on the swim team, and the application and selection process is designed to be very thoughtful on the part of your swimmer and the coaching staff.
We anticipate selecting up to three Junior Coaches this season, chosen by Head Coach Isabelle Jones with input from the assistant coaches, who will help serve as mentors. Ideally, Junior Coaches have interest in being an assistant coach or head coach in the future and want to be part of this program to give them the experience needed to reach that goal.
Please note this is a non-paid, volunteer position, but it comes with expected commitments. Selected Junior Coaches will sign contracts with the expectations that they will:
- Help at practices May 20 through July 13.
- Attend all meets, social/fundraising events, and the 8 and under Prelims event July 9, 2019.
- Serve as role models for the younger swimmers, respecting all rules and demonstrating safe practices.
- Attend the 8 and under practices among other requested tasks.
Before applying, please review these requirements:
- Swimmer who will be entering the 9th grade or above in the fall of 2019.
- Attend coach trainings, practices and meets you have signed up for. Missed practices or meets must have prior approval from the Head Coach, unless due to illness or emergency.
- Follow all directions and carry out duties assigned by Head Coach. Provide motivational and technical training to swimmers within a safe environment that ensures a fun and rewarding swim team season.
- Serve as a positive role model by refraining from horseplay, using inappropriate language and disrespectful behavior.
- Follow all safety and security regulations and rules at both practice and meets. Phones should not be in use during 8 and under practices.
- Meet as needed with Head Coach and Parent Representatives to discuss relevant swim team issues.
- Assist with the following events – Kick Off dinner, Kidnap Breakfast, Meatball Dinner, team Pictures, Swim-a-lap and the Team Banquets.
- At the meets, you will be responsible for:
- Helping the coaches get the 6 and unders and 7-8 relays together and ready to go at the beginning of the meet.
- Helping cheer for swim team members during their races.
If your swimmer feels confident they can uphold these duties and expectations and wishes to apply to be a part of the Junior Coach program, please have them the following questions on the Google form at this link by Sunday, March 31. Coach Isabelle will notify everyone by mid-April. Please reach out to her if you have any questions: [email protected].
We are very excited to grow our Neptune’s Family and see our Junior Coaches be an integral part of the leadership team!
Many thanks,
Janette, Laura and Rita
