Coaches Corner Vol. 3

Hello!

Well, this last meet certainly blew by compared to Bow Mar. It definitely made the heat somewhat bearable. I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying your summers, even if the sun has a vendetta against us!

All that aside, I just want to say how impressed we are as coaches: all of our swimmers are making incredible progress! We had lots of swimmers pull off their first legal breaststroke race, so kudos to you all, it’s definitely not an easy stroke to learn.

Of course, we still have plenty to work on. Here are our notes from the meet:

  • Kicks!! Many of you hardly used your legs in your races. This is a huge disadvantage to you! Yes, it's tiring to keep kicking through a whole 50 or 100, but I promise you will swim a lot faster.
  • Streamlines! Again, it's a huge disadvantage if you dont push off ALL of your walls with a streamline: it gets your body into a more hydrodynamic position and cuts down on the drag in the water.
  • Dives and turns always need additional practice, but everyone is definitely getting the hang of them.
  • Sportsmanship: you all did amazing with shaking hands with each other, but I just want to keep pushing it especially for our next in-person meet this saturday.

Also a quick note: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make sure your kids eat well before practices and meets and are adequately hydrated. We have had more incidents where kids have passed out or gotten really dizzy during practice, and we want to make sure everyone is safe.

Once again, congratulations on your amazing hard work and dedication this season. Lets keep it up!

Daniel
